Privacy Policy of Key Life Insurance Company
Key Life values your relationship
and we take very seriously our obligation to protect the privacy
of your personal information. The basis of each customer relationship
at Key Life is built on trust. You have chosen to do business with
Key, and we guard that relationship with great care, beginning with
the information you have chosen to share with us.
When you apply to Key Life Insurance Company for insurance or financial
services, you entrust us with personal health and financial information.
This information is necessary because we rely on you as the best
and most important source of information about you and other persons
listed on your application. We may also collect personal information
about you from other sources.
Key Life Insurance Company is dedicated to protecting the privacy
of your nonpublic personal information. We want you to understand
what information we collect, and how we use and protect it. This
notice serves as a standard for all our employees for collection,
use, retention and security of nonpublic personal consumer information.
Throughout this brochure, when we state, "Key Life Insurance
Company," we mean also our holding company, The Key Corporation
and any of our affiliated companies.
What Information We Collect
"Nonpublic personal information" is information about
you that we obtain in connection with providing a financial product
or service. Such information includes for example:
Information from applications or other forms such as your
name and address, social security number, age, gender, marital status,
assets and income;
Information about transactions with us and our affiliates,
such as account balance, payment and claims history, type of product
purchased and policy coverage;
Information provided by employers, benefit plan sponsors,
or associations, such as employee premium contribution amounts and
employee or association eligibility;
Information from other sources, such as motor vehicle reports,
medical information, and information about your transactions with
other insurance companies; and
Information from a consumer reporting agency, such as credit
worthiness, credit and payment history and credit relationships.
Our Security Standards
To maintain security of customer information, we restrict access
to your personal and account information to persons who need to
know that information to provide you products or services. We maintain
physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to guard information.
What Information We Disclose
Key Life Insurance Company does not disclose nonpublic personal
information about our customers or former customers to any companies
that are not members of our corporate family ("third parties"),
except as permitted or required by law, specifically Title V of
the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999. The confidentiality of your
nonpublic personal information will continue to be maintained consistent
with this privacy policy even if you decide to cease doing business
with us.
During the normal course of business, Key Life may share the personal
information as described above with a company affiliated with Key
Life. Also, Key Life may disclose information we collect, as described
above, to third parties with which we have contracts to perform
functions on our behalf. These include financial service providers
such as, insurance companies, payment processing companies and nonfinancial
service providers such as, mailing houses and data processing companies.
In addition, we may share the information listed above with financial
institutions with which we jointly offer, endorse, or sponsor a
financial product or service.
All of these third parties, which act with us or on our behalf,
are contractually obligated to keep the information that we provide
to them confidential and to use the information only to provide
the services we have asked them to perform for you and us. Because
we already limit the sharing of your nonpublic personal information
as outlined above, no action is necessary on your part to limit
such sharing.
Fair Credit Reporting Act Disclosure
In some cases, Key Life may ask a consumer reporting agency to compile
an investigative consumer report on you. If a consumer report is
requested, we will notify you promptly with the name and address
of the consumer reporting agency that will furnish the report. Upon
written request, you may request to be interviewed in connection
with the investigation. The agency may retain a copy of the report
and may disclose it to other persons to the extent permitted by
the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Medical Information Bureau
Key Life or its reinsurers may make a report of nonpublic information
in conjunction with its membership in the Medical Information Bureau,
a nonprofit organization of life insurance companies, which operates
an information exchange on behalf of its members.
If an application or claim for benefits is submitted to another
Bureau member company for life or health insurance coverage, the
bureau, upon request, will supply such company with information
in its file. Upon your request, the Bureau will arrange disclosure
of any information it has in your file.
If you question the accuracy of information in the Bureaus
file, you may seek a correction in accordance with the procedures
set forth in the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act. Contact the
